News added on: 18 December 2020

Welcome to our third EnRHEd newsletter aiming to keep you informed about our exciting Project.

As we already mentioned in our last newsletter, the Coronavirus situation is delaying the development of some objectives of EnRHEd, especially regarding mobility flows. Anyway, our team does not stop!!!

On the contrary, while waiting to start traveling again, the EnRHEd team is deepening many aspects of the Project in order to reach its own goal, namely the Enhancement of Rwandan Higher Education in strategic fields for sustainable growth.

So, let’s take a look at these months of work…

ONLINE MEETINGS
TO PLAN E-LEARNING TRAININGS

October 2020

“E-learning: a new way to teach and share knowledge”

During specific workshops held by the EnRHEd team (particularly Prof. Luciana Stortoni and Prof. Stefan Ludwigs from RFH – Rheinische Fachhochschule Koln – Germany) with each Rwandan Project Partner, ideas about concrete needs, based on goals and commitment of lecturers on E-learning, have been discussed.

It has been proposed to set up a small “E-learning expert team” inside each institution and train the staff members to this purpose to reach the transversal objective of developing and enhancing E-learning in Rwandan Institutions. Obviously, this objective is connected to one of our main objective, namely “Digital infrastructure”.

The long-term goal will be not only to increase in broad spectrum lecturers skills in digital education, but also to form a team of experts, which could include the following profiles:

  1. E-Learning Expert: E-learning experts are didactically and technically trained experts who have the task of developing digital teaching at their universities and/or in their faculties. They formulate the strategy, organize training courses, support the teachers in their projects and bring about the operational decisions.
  2. Pilot Expert Teachers (PETs): Pilot Expert Teachers are experts in their faculties and form the team of teachers that will develop sample applications for digital teaching. PETs will become E-learning reference teachers for the Institution and will acquire didactic and technical competences.

DIGITAL EQUIPMENT FOR

December 2020

“There is real progress only when the advantages of a new technology become for everyone”

The creation of a digital teaching/learning platform to facilitate e-learning is one of the main objectives of the EnRHEd Project, as well as the link between all HEIs and internationalisation at home.

To this purpose, it is necessary to create the necessary conditions to “start” with this virtual platform, where teaching/learning materials will be shared, to attend distance learning courses,. This prerequisite is first of all the installation of computer labs where students and teachers can easily access E-learning.

In our last newsletter we told you about UTAB, the first Rwandan HEI that concluded the procedures for the purchase of digital equipment thanks to the EnRHEd Project funds. As far as the other Rwandan Institutions are concerned, all orders have now been placed and in the first months of 2021 we will show you some more photos of the digital equipment purchased from IPRC, UR and INES.

Stay tuned!

Hoping to start travelling again and waiting to share with you some new Project updates, we take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
