News added on: 21 March 2022

Dear all,

here we are again to keep you updated on the ongoing activities within the EnRHEd Project. As you will have seen from the recent news on our official website, the Italian team has just concluded an intensive time together with Rwandan colleagues, between 28 January and 18 February 2022.

The Italian team was composed of three UNIPR academics, namely Roberto Valentino, Davide Barbanti and Andrea Fabbri.  They have held some didactic trainings and seminars for students and lecturers of the four Rwandan partner Institutions, in the fields of Civil Engineering (Soil Mechanics), Food Science and Technology and Agronomy, respectively.. The visiting delegation was warmly welcomed by the African colleagues, who organised some workshops to describe the activities carried out within EnRHEd and to discuss through round tables on innovation in teaching methods and future project developments (read more about the workshops at IPRC-Musanze and at UTAB). Rwandan television broadcaster was also invited to interview some of the EnRHEd participants.

In addition to the trainings and workshops, the new visit to Rwanda also enabled the EnRHEd team to build further relationships, including institutional ones, as well as to launch new collaboration and projects.

The delegation was in fact welcomed at the Rwandan Ministry of Education by Hon. Claudette Irere, Minister of State in charge of ICT and technical vocational education and training, together with a group of executives of the same Ministry. The occasion was precious: the Minister and the EnRHEd delegation discussed about the activities carried out so far, and about the new cooperation and capacity building projects between European and Rwandan partners.

Also the Ambassador of the European Union in Rwanda, Dr Nicola Bellomo, invited the EnRHEd delegation for a meeting, to be informed about the latest developments of the project and future cooperation perspectives.

The institutional visit of the EnRHEd team to UTAB-Byumba also made it possible to go beyond the EnRHEd project: a bilateral cooperation protocol between the University of Parma and the University of Technology and Arts of Byumba was signed to establish new partnerships in the future.

During the period spent in Rwanda, it was possible to work on the drafting of a new Erasmus+ project in the field of renewable energies, thanks to the coordination of Prof. Paolo Ciampolini (from the University of Parma) and the involvement of the four Rwandan partner institutions. The proposal of this new project is also a turning point for the EnRHEd project, thanks to which people could meet to share needs and write a joint proposal. A real capacity building is being implemented!

This EnRHEd visit allowed staff of Rwandan and European institutions to meet and further discuss about the future, promoting collaboration, establishing good practices of internationalization and stimulating the improvement of the local higher education.
