News added on: 28 June 2022

Dear all,

we hope you are doing well! The EnRHEd team is going great and wants to update you on what’s been going on in the last few months… and on the wonderful exchanges we’ve done from April to the present.

But let’s start since the beginning, with a delegation from RFH-Köhln that traveled to Rwanda and then came back to Europe along with 10 Rwandan lecturers who, meanwhile, have stayed in Italy to undertake an intensive month of academic training…

RFH mobility in Rwanda – April-May 2022

Between April 23 and April 30, 2022, an EnRHEd delegation from Rheinische Fachhochschule Köln (RFH) reached Rwanda to spend one week of workshops at the four partner institutions. 3 lecturers, a member of the technical staff for E-learning activities and 4 students – who for months have been working on a collaborative project with their colleagues from the Rwandan partner institutions – were part of the delegation. The mission was mainly focused on two key aspects: verifying the work of digital centers and designing new E-learning activities, and structuring a Project oriented collaboration between academia and industry. The latter is an innovative and ambitious project that aims to use digital tools in the field of food production and processing, in cooperation with private companies.

Rwandan mobility to UNIPR – April-May 2022

Between April 27 and May 24, 2022, 10 faculty members from INES-Ruhengeri and University of Rwanda (CAVM and CST campuses) joined their colleagues at the University of Parma (UNIPR) to attend intensive academic trainings. Architecture, Engineering, ICT, and Food Science and Technology were the 4 fields in which the lecturers worked. Each Rwandan lecturer was accompanied by a UNIPR tutor, i.e., an Italian lecturer who was able to organize the specific training activities, to make this experience truly “personal”. There was no lack of time for sharing and exchange among lecturers, doing educational meetings and classroom seminars, visiting local food companies and major international exhibitions as well as spending some recreational and social moments, which contributed to strengthen relationships among colleagues.

Uliège mobility in Rwanda – May-June 2022

Between May 29 and June 5, Prof. Roland Billen and Research Fellow Dr. Charline Dubois, both from the University of Liege (ULIEGE), traveled to Rwanda in order to meet the local colleagues and organize together a summer school. The latter will be held in Belgium in August-September 2022 and will be attended by a group of Rwandan lecturers. At INES-Ruhengeri and IPRC-Musanze the ULIEGE team delivered two seminars titled “From user to expert: challenges in geomatics education” and “Research related to digital heritage “, respectively. An important event was certainly the International conference on Science and Technology (ICT, Geomatics, Agriculture, Biology) organized by the University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB). During the conference, the Belgian delegation discussed with African (and European) colleagues on the “Challenges in geomatics education for non-geomaticians“. The streaming video of this conference has been activated to allow everyone to participate live (1000 views).

These EnRHEd exchanges are allowing staff of Rwandan and European institutions to meet and further discuss about the future, promoting collaboration, establishing good practices of internationalization and stimulating the improvement of the local higher education.

Did you think you had ended up like this? and you didn’t?
